Datun township is located between Muxi and changbangzi mountain, in the north of Yuexi County, 7 kilometers away from Yuexi County. It is divided into East and west by Yuexi river. The total area of the township is 23.75 square kilometers, the annual rainfall is 1113 mm, the annual average temperature is 11.5 degrees, the highest altitude is 2450 meters, the lowest altitude is 1650 meters, and the relative altitude is 800 meters.

Datun township is located between Muxi and changbangzi mountain, in the north of Yuexi County, 7 kilometers away from Yuexi County. It is divided into East and west by Yuexi river. The total area of the township is 23.75 square kilometers, the annual rainfall is 1113 mm, the annual average temperature is 11.5 degrees, the highest altitude is 2450 meters, the lowest altitude is 1650 meters, and the relative altitude is 800 meters. The township governs 6 administrative villages, 25 villager groups and 2128 households, with a total population of 9441 people, including 3751 women and 4233 ethnic minorities. It has a cultivated area of 6348 mu, mainly producing rice, corn, rape, wheat, tartary buckwheat, potato, etc. The main economic trees are apple, Zanthoxylum bungeanum, walnut, etc. The main economic crop is flue-cured tobacco.

By 2007, 2024 mu of flue-cured tobacco had been planted, 318496.25 kg of flue-cured tobacco had been sold, and the output value was 2965355.43 yuan. The total grain output is 3492 tons, with 820 Jin of grain per capita. The total annual output value is 25.9 million yuan, and the per capita net income of farmers is 2420 yuan.

Historical evolution

On January 12, 2021, the people's Government of Sichuan Province decided to abolish Datun Township and put its administrative area under the jurisdiction of Xinmin Town, which is located at No. 8, government lane, Xinmin village.
