Wenchang Street

Wenchang street, belonging to Linchuan District, Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, is located at the junction of urban and rural areas in Fuzhou City. It is located at the east end of Fuzhou City, Hunan Township in the East, Xijing highway street and liushuiqiao street across the river in the south, and Xiaoqiao town in the North. It covers an area of 8.76 square kilometers and governs 12 communities. At the end of 2011, the total population of Wenchang sub district was 32100, including 14100 agricultural population and 17900 non-agricultural population.

Wenchang Street got its name from Wenchang bridge in Fuzhou. In the early days of liberation, people lived by water. Two streets, Hengjie street and Zhijie street, close to the Fuhe River Basin, were the main prosperous areas of Fuzhou City. Merchants gathered together, leaving such places as Fuzhou guild hall, Catholic Church, Zhengjue ancient temple, Wenchang ancient bridge and so on.

In 2011, the total retail sales of social consumer goods in Wenchang Street reached 115 million yuan, an increase of 18% over 2010.

History of construction

In 1958, Qiaodong commune was established; in 1980, it belonged to Yangzhou commune and Qiaodong commune; in 1984, Yangzhou commune was changed into Yangzhou township; in 1995, Yangzhou town was rebuilt; in December 2001, Yangzhou town and Qiaodong street were abolished and Wenchang street was merged.

Neon lights are installed on the bridge body and under the bridge. Twelve Chinese zodiac animals are placed on the water dividing pier of the bridge. Two stone lions are placed at each end of the bridge to guard the bridge.

Located in the east of Wenchang bridge in Fuzhou City, Yulong Longevity Palace is 80 meters long and 54 meters wide, facing the East and south from the West. It covers an area of 4320 square meters and is divided into three parts: front, middle and back. The front is the music hall (stage), the front hall and the ear room, the back is the three storey attic, and the middle is the main hall. The main hall is divided into three parts: the left is the temple of fire, the right is Wenxing temple, and the middle is Xuxian Temple (also known as Jingyang Temple).
