New town

New town is one of the pilot towns and civilized demonstration towns of small town construction in Tianjin. It is located in the South Bank of Haihe River within the boundary of Tianjin Binhai New Area. Facing Tanggu city across the river, it is adjacent to Tanggu salt farm in the south, gegu town in Jinnan District in the west, Haihe River in the north and South Helu road in the East. It covers an area of 31 square kilometers and has a population of 21000. It is located in the middle of the district. It is adjacent to Tanggu salt field and Gulin street in the south, gegu town in Jinnan District in the west, Haihe River in the north and South hexu road in the East. It covers an area of 30.79 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 21867 (2017). It has jurisdiction over 6 administrative villages and 18 natural villages. The town government is located in Xincheng village. The coastline is 13.9 km long. Li Gang railway, Jin Jin expressway, Chang Shen expressway, Jingu Road, gangtang Road, Jinguang Road, Henan Road and Shuguang Road pass through the area.

Evolution of organizational system

In 1962, it was divided into Jinnan District (formerly southern suburb). In 1983, it was changed into a township. In 1995, it was built into a town. The former dengshangu township was transferred from Tianjin county to Tanggu in 1950, dengshangu township was established in 1953, commune was changed in 1960, and township was changed in 1983. In 1996, the new town covers an area of 12 square kilometers, with a population of 13000, and governs three administrative villages, namely Xincheng, huangquan and Yingfang; dengshangu Township covers an area of 16 square kilometers, with a population of 7000, and governs three administrative villages, namely dengshangu, Nankai and Liangzi. In August 1998, Deng Shangu township was abolished and merged into a new town.
