It is 54 kilometers away from the county, with a total area of 824.02 square kilometers.
In 1956, shanggongma district was established; in 1984, shanggongma commune was changed to shanggongma township. By the end of 2018, the population of the registered residence in Shang Gong Ma Township was 3630. In 2019, shanggongma Township governs five administrative villages, and the people's government is stationed in tanggegei.
