The area is 123 square kilometers. In 2018, 5711 people registered residence.

In 1949, Weiying township was established. In 1958, it belonged to Gongjing commune. In 1961, Weiying commune was established. In 1983, Weiying township was changed. In June 2020, Weiying village governs seven administrative villages.

In 2018, Weiying township has two comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters.
