Xiayao sub district office was established in November 2004. It is located in the northwest end of Honggu District, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, on the East Bank of the lower reaches of Datong River. It is adjacent to Qishan township of Yongdeng in the East, Heqiao town of Yongdeng in the west, Yaojie office in the North and Haishi town in the south. It covers an area of 20.5 square kilometers. It has the first, second, third and fourth community neighborhood committees of Xiayao, with 17149 permanent residents (2010), mostly Han nationality, There are also Hui, Manchu, Dongxiang, Tibetan, Turkish and other ethnic minorities, with 19 enterprises and institutions.

Xiayao Street office is high in the East and low in the West. It is located in the Loess Plateau in the East with an altitude of 2000?? 2400 meters. In the west, it is located in the southern end of babaochuan in Datong River Valley with an altitude of 1800 meters. It has a continental semi-arid climate with an average annual precipitation of 349.6 mm, an average annual temperature of 7.6 ℃ and a frost free period of 146 days. The street is located in the lower reaches of Datong River. The lower part of its geological structure is gray white, black gray, black thick conglomerate, medium coarse glutenite, carbonaceous mudstone intercalated with sandstone, and the upper part is 9.3m thick coal seam. At the bottom are yellowish brown, grayish white and purplish brown medium coarse sandstone tiles, with a thickness of 67 meters, belonging to coal seam geological system, accompanied by siderite, oil shale, oil-bearing sandstone and other mineral deposits. The territory is rich in mineral resources. More than 10 kinds of mineral spots and deposits have been proved. There are abundant rock, shale, serpentine (Qilian jade) marble, rare earth, construction sand and other mineral resources in coal. It is known as "babaochuan" and "metallurgical Valley". Xiayao street is located in the junction of urban and rural areas of Lanzhou city. It is 120km away from Ganqing transportation main road, 124km away from Xining in the west, and Liancheng Haishiwan special railway runs through the whole town, forming a comprehensive transportation network extending in all directions. Xiayao street has perfect infrastructure, sufficient water and electricity, and convenient communication. The telephone penetration rate was 14.27%, and the household rate was 38.45%.
