Matoushui township is located in the northwest of Jiancaoping District, Taiyuan City, adjacent to Shanglan Town, Xueyuan village in the East, huoluping township (now xilingjing township) in Yangqu County across Fenhe River in the north, huaketou Township in the south, Wangfeng Township in the west, and Zhongbei University, a famous university. Historical evolution

In 1961, the original villages of matoushui Township were separated from huaketou commune and established matoushui commune, which belongs to Han District. In the same year, Hejiashan was incorporated from huaketou commune and returned to the suburbs in 1963. In 1970, it was designated as the northern suburb. Matou water town was established in 1984. In January 1998, it was assigned to Jiancaoping district and became the only mountainous town in the whole district.
