Yiliu Street connects Xiaobanqiao street in the north, Guandu street in the west, Chenggong District in the East and Dianchi Lake in the south. It covers an area of 35 square kilometers, with a population of 48593 (in 2010), an agricultural population of 33577 and an ethnic minority population of 2405. It has jurisdiction over 18 communities, 26 administrative villages and 33 villager groups. Kunyu expressway, Kunhe railway, Caiyun Road, Kunluo Road, Guangfu Road, Huanhu Road, Kunming South Ring Expressway, Kunming Rail Transit Line 1 and Kunming Rail Transit Line 4 pass through the territory.

It was the Second District of Kunming County in 1950, the Fifth District of Kunming City in 1953, Guandu District in 1956 and the second farm of Kunming City in 1958. In September 1962, Kunming state farm was transferred to Guandu District and Yiliu commune was set up; in 1984, Yiliu (rural) office was changed; in 1988, township was changed. In 1997, it covers an area of 25 square kilometers and has a population of 32000. It has jurisdiction over 10 administrative villages, including yiliula, Wula, self-defense, Puzi, wangguan, Guansuo, Yucun, Hongren, Zijun and Guangwei. In 2006, it covers an area of 20.53 square kilometers and has a population of 35200. It governs 10 administrative villages, including Zijun, Yiliu, self-defense, wangguan, Yucun, Guansuo, Hongren, Puzi, Guangwei and Wula.
