Lapu township is located in the lower puxiong River Valley, adjacent to Raji township of Shenguozhuang in the East, sigapu Township in the south, Tiexi Township in the west, and natuo town in the north, about 36 km away from the county seat. The highest altitude of Biji mountain is 3992 meters, and the lowest altitude is 1630 meters, showing a typical three-dimensional climate distribution. The annual average temperature is 12.5 degrees Celsius, and the annual rainfall is 1100 mm. The annual frost free period is 235 days, suitable for planting rice, wheat, corn, potato, buckwheat and other cereals. The township covers an area of 65.5 square kilometers, with 63549 mu of natural grassland, 46991 mu of forest land, 6817 mu of cultivated land, including 1312 mu of paddy field. Lapu Township governs 5 administrative villages and 22 villager groups. At the end of 2007, the total population was 6256 and the total number of households was 1361. The four major livestock stocks reached 15536.

On January 12, 2021, Sichuan Provincial People's government decided to abolish lapu Township and establish lapu town. The original administrative region of lapu township is the administrative region of lapu town. The people's Government of lapu town is located at No. 65, lapu street, lapu village.
