Village news
Nimulong village is a typical arid valley climate of Jinsha River. It is dry and rainless, and the land is barren. There are many barren beaches and wasteland, so the pace of villagers to get rid of poverty and become rich is particularly heavy. In 2004, Kang Lin, 42, was elected secretary of nimulong village branch, zhongxinrong Township, Batang County. Facing the wasteland which accounts for nearly 40% of the total area of the village and the result of several failed planting in the wasteland, Kanglin is confused and unwilling. Is it true that the wasteland can not become a barrier for nimulong village to get rich? He went to the county three times and invited technicians to analyze the walnut varieties, climate, soil, water quality and other conditions in the village. Finally, they came to the conclusion that walnuts could be planted. After soliciting the villagers' opinions, Kang Lin took them to explore planting walnuts on the barren beach in the arid valley of Jinsha River. He traveled between the county and the village, actively striving for support: the county forestry bureau sent walnut seedlings free of charge, and technical personnel brought water conservancy facilities design drawings and Walnut Grafting Technology. In 2006, Kanglin worked with villagers to build water canals, install rubber pipes, and build irrigation pools. Rows of verdant and straight walnut trees grew on the valley, in sharp contrast to the yellow brown of the valley land. Nowadays, the walnut planting area in nimulong village has developed to more than 1000 mu. The per capita net income of the villagers has also increased from less than 1000 yuan three years ago to more than 1300 yuan now. 62 of the 78 farmers in the village rely on planting walnut trees to get rid of poverty.
