Banyou Township

Banyou township is under the jurisdiction of Ruoergai County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. Located in the south of the county, township government in DOMA, 12 kilometers away from the county. It covers an area of 1123.54 square kilometers and has a population of 6190 (2017). It has jurisdiction over four village committees, including Duoma village, Hongguang Village, Banyou village and qiujilangwa village.

In December 2019, the people's Government of Aba Prefecture decided to abolish Banyou township.

Basic information

It is located in the southeast of Ruoergai County, 12 kilometers away from the county seat, with an average altitude of 3515 meters and an annual average temperature of 0.7 ℃. It covers an area of 1123.54 square kilometers, governs 5 administrative villages and 72 joint grazing groups, and has 1.672 million mu of natural grassland and 1.1242 million mu of available grassland. It is a pure livestock farming Township mainly based on animal husbandry. National Highway 213 and ruojiu run through the whole area. They are an important part of the "dajiuzhai" tourist ring line. There are Banyou village, the first village passed by the red army when it crossed the snow mountain and grassland during the Long March, and Duoma village, the national civilized village. With flat terrain, vast grassland, abundant water and grass, and rich tourism resources, it is within the scope of "Ruoergai Wetland National Nature Reserve" and "khaerqiao Wetland Nature Reserve". Rich in Fritillaria, Cordyceps, rhubarb, Gentiana and other valuable Chinese herbal medicine, the famous scallop produced in the territory, has proven mineral resources peat, iron, copper, manganese, gold and other 20 species.

In the south of Ruoergai County, there is a town called Banyou, whose name is translated as "old monk". Why did you get such a name? There is also a tortuous story. It is said that in ancient times, this place with an altitude of 3500 meters and an area of nearly 1000 km2 was uninhabited. Later, I do not know when to start, first and then 12 families of poor herdsmen settled down here, gradually and naturally formed a small fall.
