Gaoji Yao nationality township

Gaoji Yao nationality township is a minority nationality township divided from Doujiang commune in 1984. It has a long history, outstanding people and unique folk customs. The customs of Yao nationality have been well preserved. The township is rich in natural resources, rich in fir, bamboo, Siraitia grosvenorii.

The township is rich in tourism resources. Longtang primeval forest is the most complete preserved primeval forest area with the largest area of wild animals and plants growing equally in autumn in the county, and it is also the only first-class scenic spot in the county. The scenic spot is located in chonggan village, Gaoji Township, at the junction of Sanjiang and Rong'an counties, 20 kilometers away from the seat of Gaoji Yao township government.

The township government is located in the southeast of Sanjiang County, 26 kilometers away from the county, connecting Sanmen town of Longsheng County in the East, Heping township of the county in the west, Banlan town of Rong'an County in the South and Doujiang town of the county in the north. The total area of the township is 168.77 square kilometers. The township has 8 villager committees, 56 natural villages and 83 villager groups.

Population and nationality

By the end of 2017, there were 5970 permanent residents, including Yao, Miao, Dong, Zhuang and Han nationalities. Yao people mainly live in Gongjiang, chonggan, Baijun, Ladan and Bishu villages, 21 villages with inconvenient transportation and closed information.

The forest area is 187100 mu, including 110000 mu of Cunninghamia lanceolata, 45000 mu of Phyllostachys pubescens and 2100 mu of tea. The forest coverage rate reaches 86%, which is known as "green high base". In 2006, the per capita net income was 1699 yuan.
