Caitang Town

Caitang Town, a town under the jurisdiction of Chao'an District, Chaozhou City, Guangdong Province, is located in the plain area of the lower reaches of Hanjiang River. Sangpu mountain lies in the West. It is adjacent to DIDU town of Jieyang City in the southwest, Anbu town in the south, Dongfeng Town in the southeast, Jinshi town in the north and Shaxi Town in the northwest. The town government is located in the middle of Caijin Road, 5 kilometers away from Chaoan city. Chaoshan highway and Guangmeishan railway run through the territory with convenient transportation and superior geographical conditions. The total area is 43.87 square kilometers, and the cultivated area is 12.7 square kilometers (19044 mu). It governs 32 villages and 1 community, with a total of 53 natural villages. By the end of 2005, there were 347 villager groups, 23817 households and 103831 permanent residents in the town, including 3335 non-agricultural households, 9202 non-agricultural residents, 25000 migrant residents and 87000 overseas Chaozhou residents and compatriots from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan

Evolution of organizational system

In the Northern Song Dynasty, there were villages in Caitang Town. Caitang Town in Song Dynasty belonged to Shangpu capital, and its capital system was still in use until 1914, when it was changed into Shangpu district. In 1926, Dongpu district was merged into shangdongpu district. In 1928, it was called the seventh district. In 1930, it belonged to the seventh district. In 1946, it was divided into Pudong and Puxi townships. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, it was changed into shangdongpu district. In 1950, shangdongpu district was abolished as the seventh district people's government. Caitang township was renamed in 1956. Caitang Town People's commune was established in 1958. It was divided into Caitang and Jinhua communes at the end of 1960. It was merged into Caitang commune in 1962. The abandoned commune was renamed Caitang District Office in 1983. The district office was renamed Caitang Town People's Government in 1987 and Caitang Town People's Government in Chaoan County in 1992. In 2013, it was called Caitang Town People's Government of Chao'an District, Chaozhou City.
