Poyang Town, subordinate to Lufeng City, Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, is located in the northeast of Lufeng City. It is located at the junction of Lufeng, Luhe, Puning and Huilai counties and cities. It is adjacent to Kuitan town of Huilai County in the East, 80000 town in the west, Bomei Town, Neihu town and Tongluohu farm in the south, Hekou town of Luhe county and Daping town of Puning City in the north. The total area is 159 square kilometers. In late 2018, the registered residence of the town was 58482. As of June 2020, piyang town has jurisdiction over 1 community and 13 administrative villages.

In 2018, there will be 25 comprehensive stores or supermarkets with a business area of more than 50 square meters in piyang town.

Historical evolution

In the early days of liberation, it belonged to Bomei district.

In 1951, it was divided into the fourth district.

In 1957, Beiyang township was established in Heda township.

In 1958, it was merged with Tongluohu farm to form Xianfeng people's commune.

In March 1984, it was divided into districts.

Transportation

There are two main highways in piyang town. One is from west to East, connecting Guangshan highway from Pigou through Lianhua, Sanling, Longtan, Guzhai, Caoyang and shuangkeng, with a total length of 6 km. The other is from north to south, connecting Guangshan highway from Pigou through mazhukeng intersection in Tongluohu farm area, with a total length of 6 km. There are 14 passenger trucks, and 24 passenger buses to Shantou, Huilai, Lufeng and Shanwei.

History and culture

Orthography

Zhengzi opera, also known as Zhengyin opera, is one of the local operas in Poyang. It is sung and read in Zhongzhou phonological Mandarin (Zhengyin) and is a legacy of Nanxi opera. Lufeng Zhengzi troupe, formerly known as Shuangxi Zhengzi troupe, was founded in 1769. In 1952, it was renamed as Lufeng Shuangxi Zhengzi troupe. In 1980, it integrated the art of Shantou Zhengzi troupe and Lufeng Zhengzi troupe Lu Feng county Zhengzi opera troupe was re established.

Lu Feng's shadow play

Lufeng shadow play is one of the three major shadow play systems in China. It is the only legacy of Chaozhou shadow play and one of the local dramas in piyang. Lufeng shadow play company is Guangdong shadow play company. The survival and development of Lu Feng shadow play in the folk has the gene of the ancient Minnan language family, and has been bred by the folk customs of Hai and Lu Feng.
