Qijiaping town is located in the northeast of Yuanling County, Hunan Province, adjacent to Taoyuan in the East, Wuqiangxi town and Qinglang Township in the south, Zhangjiajie in the north and daheping in the West. It is an important economic and cultural town in the border area of Huaihua, Changde and Zhangjiajie. It is one of the four township level market towns in Yuanling.
The territory is rich in water resources. There are four small hydropower stations with an installed capacity of 2730 kilowatts, an annual power generation of 7.8 million kilowatts, and a potential hydropower reserve of 20000 kilowatts. Bird nest hydropower station, a key investment attraction project of the county Party committee and government, is invested by Hunan Guohong Hydropower Development Co., Ltd., with a total investment of 120 million yuan, an installed capacity of 16300 kW and an annual power generation capacity of 142.78 million KW. It was officially started in April 2005. Now the main project is under construction, and the first unit is planned to generate electricity in August 2007. After the completion of the power station, the vast water area will drive the development of aquaculture and eco-tourism in the town.
