Zhonghekou town

Dingcheng District of Changde City governs the town. It is located 60 km northeast of the District, adjacent to Lishui River in the East and Anxiang across the river, adjacent to Dukou town and maolihu town in Jinshi city in the northwest, West Dongting farm in the South and haozigang town in the southeast. The town is sandwiched by Lishui River and its tributaries, Donghu River and Mahe river. The terrain is flat, the land is fertile, the fields are square, the ditches are crisscross, and the traffic is convenient (there are provincial highway S205 and Changyue Expressway Crossing). The total area of the town is 68.25 square kilometers (2017), including 57400 mu of cultivated land. It has one neighborhood committee and 22 administrative villages with a total population of 30339 (2017).

Historical evolution

Zhonghekou is named after the branch of Donghu River, a branch of Lishui River, which faces wangjiazhou and dingjiazhou. Before 1949, it belonged to Xihu and Zhoushi townships. In August 1949, it belonged to Xihu Township and was under the jurisdiction of the first district (shimeitang). It was still in 1952. In November 1951, jianzhonghe, Shouhu, Mahe and other townships were under the jurisdiction of the first district (haozigang). In July 1953, it was under the jurisdiction of Haozi port area. Zhonghekou township was built in June 1956. In 1958, it was under the jurisdiction of Dongting commune. Zhonghekou commune was established in March 1961. In February 1984, it was renamed zhonghekou township. In 1994, Hekou town was built. Mahekou, 5km to the east of the town, was an important military area in ancient times. In 1645, the General Ma Jinzhong and Wang Jincai of the Southern Ming Dynasty captured Changde. Three years later, they had a fierce battle with the Qing soldiers in the area of mahekou.

At present, there are 23 agricultural processing enterprises, including 2 provincial agricultural leading enterprises (Wanlida Mianma and fuminqiao mustard), 3 municipal agricultural leading enterprises (Yujia food, Hongfei cotton industry and agricultural professional cooperatives), and 5 pillar industries have been formed, including 40000 mu of high-quality cotton base, 30000 mu of high-quality rice base, 20000 mu of pollution-free vegetable base, 300000 Populus euramericana and 100000 eggs Duck base. Fumin Bridge mustard won the gold award of Hunan (International) Agricultural Expo 2003, and Zhonghe melon is well-known both inside and outside the province.
