Liaotian town

Liaotian town is located in the south of Hengnan County, Hunan Province. It is adjacent to Hengyang City of Xiangyang town in the north, Leiyang City in the south, Leishui River in the East, Xiangjiang River in the west, and Changning County across Jiaohe River in the southwest. Leishui River, Xiangjiang River and Jiaohe river flow around the township. The Beijing Guangzhou double track railway and 107 national highway run through the territory in parallel. The geographical location is superior, with a total area of 110.24 square kilometers. In May 1995, when the district was withdrawn and the township was merged, the former Prime Minister Xixiang, Huangshi Township and Liaotian Township were merged into Liaotian township. On October 1, 1995, the township was transformed into a town. In May 1996, the original Huangshi township was merged into 11 villages of Liaotian Town, which were under the jurisdiction of Xiangyang town. The town governs 26 villages, 2 neighborhood committees, 314 villager groups, with a total population of 14726 (2017); the cultivated land area is 28168 mu, including 26533 mu of paddy field and 1615 mu of dry soil.

Historical evolution

Liao Tianpu, the old name of Liao Tianxu, got its name because a rich man surnamed Liao set up a shop in this area and gradually formed a Polder. The town originally belonged to Xiangyang District. In 1995, the district was withdrawn and the township was built. The former Xiangxi Township and Huangshi Township were merged into Liaotian town.

Old revolutionary base areas

Liaotian town is an old revolutionary base, and the people of Liaotian are heroic people. On September 27, 1927, Hengyang County Party committee held a peasant uprising here.
