Historical evolution

Hufeng Town, in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, was the 50th and 51st capitals of Yuyang township. In 1949, it was named Hushan Township, with jurisdiction over 14 baos and 165 Jias. In the early days of liberation, it belonged to the third district. In April 1950, it was divided into Hushan, Gutang and Dongshan townships, belonging to Danan district. In November 1951, it was divided into Hushan, Huyan, Dongshan, Qiaotou, Jianshan and Guantang, belonging to Huqiao district. In 1956, it was merged into Hushan, Jianshan and Dongshan townships. In April 1957, it was merged into Hushan and Dongshan townships, which were directly under the jurisdiction of Guangfeng county. In November 1958, the two townships merged to form Guangming people's commune. In March 1959, it was renamed Dongshan people's commune. In September 1961, it was divided into Dongshan and Pingyuan people's communes (Huqiao commune Xinmin, Pingyang and Tangwan brigades were also under the jurisdiction of Pingyuan commune), belonging to Huqiao district. In May 1964, the Shandi people's commune was abolished and its Gaoshan and Sanlian brigades were included. In October 1968, Pingyuan commune was abolished, and its Hufeng and Huyan brigades were merged into Dongshan commune. In September 1984, Hufeng township was established.
