Mucun Township, located in the southwest of Jinggangshan City, Jiangxi Province, borders Hunan Province. The Hunan Jiangxi provincial highway runs through the township, covering a total area of 37.59 square kilometers. It governs 8 administrative villages, 57 villager groups, 86 natural villages, with a permanent resident population of 7283 people (2017). The cultivated land area is 7575 mu, including 7050 mu of paddy field, 525 mu of dry land, and 43000 mu of mountainous area. It produces 100 tons of tea oil.
Historical evolution
Mucun township is under the jurisdiction of Ninggang County, named after the resident Mucun village. In 1958, it belonged to Longshi commune. In 1968, it merged with Dongshang commune and Longshi commune to form Longshi commune. In 1972, Longshi commune, Dongshang commune and Heqiao commune were divided. Heqiao commune was renamed Mucun commune, and in 1984, it was renamed Mucun Township People's government. In May 2000, the former Jinggangshan City and the former Ninggang County merged to form a new Jinggangshan City, so Mucun township was put under the jurisdiction of Jinggangshan City.

There are 7283 permanent residents (in 2017). There are two kinds of local residents and Hakka residents in the township, mainly Hakka residents, which are distributed in all villages. In addition, Heqiao village is a natural minority village in Jinggangshan City, where the LAN family is inhabited by the She ethnic minority. The LAN family has a population of 186 ethnic minorities and 38 households.

The fruit industry covers an area of 1790 mu, with an annual output of 1070 tons of fruit. It is known as "Mucun oil depot" and "the hometown of plum fruit". Scenic Spots and Historical Sites
Mu village is located in the border between Hunan and Jiangxi, and plays an important role in military affairs. In late October 1928, Zhang Jingxi, head of the 85th regiment of the 15th division of the Hunan enemy, attempted to attack Ninggang by leading his troops to Mucun when the Red Army had just returned from southern Hunan. When Zhu De learned of this, he immediately led the 28th and 32nd regiments and the county red guards to ambush Mt. toad, waiting for the enemy to ambush him. He surrendered hundreds of guns and forced the enemy's commander to flee in disguise. It is known as Mucun battle in history. Mucun battle site is a county-level cultural relic protection unit, which is located one kilometer south of Mucun township. On November 11, 1929, Yuan Wencai and Wang Zuo led the red guards to defeat the reactionary Jingwei regiment of Ninggang County in Mucun, killing Chen Zongjing, the head of Ninggang County of the Kuomintang on the spot. Located in shebei village of Mucun Township, dulixian is an important tourist attraction in Mucun township. It is the junction of Jinggangshan, Chaling and Yanling counties. With an altitude of 810 meters, Xianyu was first built in Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty. It has a history of nearly 600 years. With undulating mountains and vast trees, it is a holy land for Taoist pilgrimage in two provinces and three counties. From Heqiao and hailing village of our township to dulixian, it can go directly to Taojiang of Taokeng township of Chaling County The source of the reservoir attracts a large number of tourists to visit the mountain every year.
