Shaokou Township

Shaokou Township, under the jurisdiction of Wan'an County, Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, is located in the northwest of Wan'an county. It is adjacent to Ganjiang River in the East, yaotou town and Baijia Town across the river, Lutian town in the southwest, Gaopi town in the northwest, Suxi town and Mashi town in Taihe County in the northeast. The total area of the township is 138.84 square kilometers. It has jurisdiction over Huanghu, Tianxi, Zhongshe, Nanqian, Shaokou, Meigang, nitang, pantang, Datang, Xinghuo and Shishi There are 11 administrative villages and 1 community, including 196 natural villages and 204 Village (resident) groups. At the end of 2018, Shaoguan Township had a registered residence population of 22 thousand and 300.

Historical evolution

According to the annals of Wan'an County in 1873, Shaokou is 40 Li northwest of the county (now in Tianxi village of Shaokou township). It is said that Yu and Shun were happy to visit Shao in the south. There were thousands of birds gathered around the county. The music and the singing of birds were harmonious, and all the mountains rang. From then on, Ruixi was called Shaokou at the entrance of Ganjiang River.

After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Wan'an county was divided into five districts and Shaokou into three districts. In 1956, Shaokou township was changed into Shaokou commune after the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. In 1958, Shaokou commune was changed to Shaokou commune. In 1984, Shaokou commune was renamed Shaokou township.

It is 11km away from the national highway 105 in the west, and the Daguang Expressway runs through the eight village committees of the township, which is 18km long. There is an interchange located in Tianxi village of the township.

History and culture

The dragon boat culture of Shaokou township is unique. The folk dragon boat race "Shaokou Baijia" has been continued and rarely interrupted. From the first day of May to the fifth day of may in the lunar calendar, Shaokou "Dragon Boat feast" makes people on both sides of the Ganjiang River enjoy talking about it.
