Nanwai Street

Nanwai street is subordinate to Zhanggong District, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province. It is located in the south of the city, adjacent to Zhangjiang River in the West and south, and Gongjiang River in the East. 2 km away from the district government. It covers an area of 4.2km2 and has a population of 94504 (in 2010). It manages 10 communities including nanwai, tudimiao, yangpoxiang, xiahaotang, sankangmiao, mulanjing, Dadou, dongyangshan, Binjiang and datangbei, as well as Hongqi village. The office is located at 72 Wenming Avenue. Hongqi Avenue, bay14 Avenue, dongyangshan road and Wenming Avenue are the main roads to the urban area.

Historical evolution

It got its name from the South Gate of the old city. On the eve of liberation, it was under the jurisdiction of Baiyun Township and Ganzhou town in Ganxian county. At the beginning of liberation, it belonged to the Fifth District of Ganzhou City and Baiyun township of Ganxian county. In May 1950, it was Baiyun township of Ganzhou City, and in July of the same year, it was a suburb of Ganzhou City. In October 1951, it was changed to the Fifth District, and in December of the same year, it was returned to the suburbs of the city. In April 1952, Baiyun, nanwai and Xiwai townships were set up, which are still the suburbs of the city. In August 1953, it was transferred to the third district. In January 1956, the district was withdrawn, belonging to Xiwai sub district office; in June of the same year, the sub district office was withdrawn, and Baiyun, nanwai, Xiwai three townships were merged into Baiyun Township, belonging to the municipal agriculture, forestry and Water Conservancy Bureau; in May 1957, it belonged to the suburb of the city. In October 1958, the district was removed and the township was merged into Zhanggong township. In November 1958, Yuejin commune was established to integrate with Zhanggong township. Nanwai sub district office was set up in October 1959, and Baiyun commune was set up in August 1964 by dividing Dongwai, Zhonglian, nanwai and Liancun Yuan4 brigades under its jurisdiction. It was changed into nanwai commune in 1966, and nanwai sub district office was restored in February 1979. In 1997, it covers an area of 6.6 square kilometers and has a population of 97000.
