Bantou shelterbelt farm

Bantou shelter forest farm is located in the northwest of Xiamen, at the junction of the southwest of Daiyun mountain and the southeast of Boping mountain. The terrain is high, medium and low, forming a narrow and long basin centered on Shidou and Bantou reservoirs.

After the completion of Shidou and Bantou reservoirs, Bantou shelterbelt farm was established in October 1959 to protect the water source in the catchment area. It was renamed Bantou forestry reclamation farm in 1961 and restored to its original name in 1963. At the beginning of its establishment, it was in charge of the Municipal Bureau of urban construction. In 1963, it was under the jurisdiction of the agriculture and Forestry Bureau, with a fixed number of 150 people.

Brief introduction of Forest Farm

The total business area is 96000 mu, with three working areas of Puwei, gongzidou and Putou, and two administrative villages of Xuzhuang and Huangdi. While vigorously developing timber forests and shelterbelts, we should actively develop diversified management, develop 84 mu of tea gardens and 432 mu of orchards, and set up wood processing plants. In 1988, we cooperated with Xiamen University to set up a macaque farm. Since 1988, pine resin has been collected and produced. Up to 1995, 521 tons of pine resin have been collected. In 1990, it invested more than 1 million yuan to build a comprehensive commercial building in Jimei, covering an area of 1700 square meters. In addition, the staff raised nearly one million yuan to build a staff dormitory building in Jimei. At the end of 1995, the total population was 1724, including 18 cadres, 51 workers (including 12 contract workers), 33 family members and children, and 1622 administrative villages. The Department consists of four units, i.e. personnel secretary, production, finance and diversified operation, and forestry police station.

Forest Farm Scale

By 1995, the total amount of state investment was 7.607 million yuan, including 4.67 million yuan for forestry production, 1.2 million yuan for construction and installation projects, 337000 yuan for diversified operation and 1.4 million yuan for management fees. The current operating area is 72200 mu (70700 mu of forest land and 1500 mu of non forest land). Among the forest land, there are 56400 mu of forest land, 0500 mu of open forest land, 9300 mu of shrub land, 0900 mu of unfinished forest land, 005 mu of nursery land and 35500 mu of non forest land. Over the past 30 years, the area of artificial afforestation has been more than 40000 mu (27425 Mu at the end of 1995). Among the woodland areas, there are 7500 mu of Cunninghamia lanceolata forest, 46300 mu of Masson pine forest, 1800 mu of broad-leaved forest and 0800 mu of economic forest. The total volume of standing trees is 214000 cubic meters, and the total volume of timber production is 25000 cubic meters. with the increasing economic development of the forest farm, the continuous improvement of production and living conditions, and the increase of staff income year by year, the total construction area of the forest farm is 6120 square meters, including 2 office buildings, 800 square meters, 7 staff houses, 3520 square meters. The cars in work area and administrative village are unblocked.

Development status

Since the construction of the site, efforts have been made to build protection forest, covering an area of 13200 mu, which plays an important role in conserving water resources, preventing soil erosion and prolonging the service life of the reservoirs, and effectively improving the ecological environment. It provides 70 million cubic meters of domestic and industrial water for Xiamen every year. In 1995, Xiamen Municipal People's government decided to set up a forest protection zone in Bantou forest farm, aiming at protecting forest soil, conserving water source, and better providing high-quality domestic and industrial water for Xiamen people.
