Guantou Town, also known as Guanjiang, is located in the south of Lianjiang county, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, on the North Bank of Minjiang Estuary, bordering Tingjiang town. It has two neighborhood committees and 26 administrative villages. The town government is located in Xiatang village, 5 meters above sea level, 11 kilometers away from the county seat and 40 kilometers away from Fuzhou.

In 2017, the administrative area was 6400 hectares, with a permanent population of 35629.

In October 2019, Guantou town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019".

General situation of villages and towns

Guantou town is located in the North Bank of Minjiang Estuary, in the center of Lianjiang, Mawei and Langqi counties (districts), which is the east gate to Fuzhou, the provincial capital. With convenient transportation and obvious location advantages, it is a provincial trade point with Taiwan approved by the State Council and a pilot town for the construction of small towns in China.

Guantou town is divided into "one district, one line and three islands". Guantou town is a famous hometown of overseas Chinese in Fujian Province, with 42000 overseas Chinese living there.

In 2011, according to the deployment of Fujian provincial Party committee and government, Guantou town of Lianjiang county was designated as Mawei new town for unified planning and construction.

Historical evolution

From Tang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Yongfu Township, with Anqing and Xin'an two Li. At the beginning of the Republic of China, it was the second district. In the 24th year of the Republic of China, after the establishment of Baojia, it was the site of the first regional department, with Guantou and Di'an joint insurance. In February 26 of the Republic of China, eight townships to the west of Xindao and two islands of Hujiang and CHUANSHI were assigned to Guantou from Minhou County, and Huchuan joint protection was added. In the 29th year of the Republic of China, Guantou Town, Di'an Township and Huchuan Township were established. In the 32 years of the Republic of China, Di'an and Huchuan merged into Dihu township. In the 33rd year of the Republic of China, Dihu township was merged into Guantou town. In the 35th year of the Republic of China, Dihu township was established again.

After the founding of new China, it was the third district. In March 1956, it belonged to Aojiang district. In July 1958, Guantou town was divided into counties directly under the central government. In September of the same year, the people's commune was established, and in June 1984, the commune was withdrawn to build a town. In 1995, Guantou town set up 27 Village (residents) committees and 235 Village (residents) groups with 16380 households and 64015 people, distributed in 49 natural villages.

In accordance with the principle of "reasonable layout, optimized structure, matching functions, moderately advanced", we should increase investment and build a development platform.

1. Construction of water and electricity facilities: a self built water plant with daily water supply capacity of 20000 tons is built, and Tangban water source is diverted to Guantou waterworks. It has a 110 kV substation and 11 100 kV power feeders.

2. Road network facilities construction: in recent years, the construction of road network, bridge, wharf and other projects has been strengthened. Guanfu Avenue, guan'an highway and other traffic arteries have been built and opened to traffic. The construction of land island traffic terminal, 3000 ton Guantou Taiwan trade terminal, Hujiang Island Bridge and other facilities has strengthened the land island connection. All 28 villages in the town have access to the village cement highway within the whole time limit. The road traffic and water traffic conditions have been greatly improved.

3. Construction of education and health facilities: investment of 7 million yuan to build a 6-storey outpatient building of Guantou central health center with a construction area of 5273 square meters; investment of 12 million yuan to build a comprehensive building of Guantou Central Primary School, experimental building of Guantou middle school and comprehensive building of Lianjiang No.2 Middle School, with a total construction area of more than 10000 square meters.

Traffic situation

In terms of geographical location, Guantou town is close to the main channel of Minjiang Estuary, 20 nautical miles away from Mawei Port and 136 nautical miles away from Keelung port in Taiwan. The waterway goes north to Wenzhou, Shanghai, Qingdao and Dalian, South to Xiamen, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, and east to Keelung port in Taiwan;

National highway 104, Shen Hai Expressway and Wen Fu railway pass through the territory, and there is an expressway interchange; it is only 40 km away from Fuzhou, the provincial capital city, and only 30 km away from Fuzhou Changle International Airport; it is only 4.96 nautical miles away from Mazu archipelago across the sea.

Economic overview

In 2010, the total output value of industry and agriculture in the town was 3.472 billion yuan, including 3.409 billion yuan of industrial output value above designated scale, 557 million yuan of fixed assets investment, 115.1 million yuan of fiscal and tax revenue, and 7563 yuan of per capita net income of farmers.

Guantou town has initially formed agricultural production bases for grain, fruit, animal husbandry, nursery stock, fish breeding, frog breeding, shellfish and algae breeding. In 2008, the total output of grain and beans reached 39000 tons; the planting area of longan, plum and other fruit trees was more than 2000 mu; the planting area of fruit seedlings was 5000 mu, with an annual sales of 25 million yuan.

Guantou town has 56 livestock farms, with more than 100000 live pigs and 1.2 million poultry sold each year. Cucumber fish, American red fish and other fish culture area of 1000 mu, the annual output of 500 tons; frogs culture continues to make breakthroughs, cultivate a large number of characteristic varieties such as biogas frog; shellfish culture area of 23000 mu, the annual output of 10955 tons.

Guantou area of Lianjiang Economic Development Zone has a planning area of 2.8 square kilometers, and the first phase of development and construction is 1.68 square kilometers. Through the rapid development in recent years, we have cultivated and expanded a number of industrial clusters with initial scale and demonstration effect, and formed coastal industries focusing on ship building, iron and steel metallurgy, machinery manufacturing, food processing, etc. Up to 2007, 39 domestic and foreign-funded enterprises have been introduced, with a total investment of 1.825 billion yuan, including 16 foreign-funded enterprises, 178 million US dollars of contractual foreign capital and 98 million US dollars of actually utilized foreign capital.

Shipbuilding Industry: the construction of Guanhai shipbuilding base is planned to invest 3 billion yuan, which is expected to form an industrial scale with an annual shipbuilding capacity of 200000 tons and an annual industrial output value of 2 billion yuan. At present, another 400 million yuan has been invested to build 80000 DWT bulk carrier.

Iron and steel manufacturing industry: focus on the construction of Futai iron and steel project, plan to invest 620 million yuan to form a production scale with an annual output of 200000 tons of refined steel in the first phase and 500000 tons of wire rod in the second phase, with an annual industrial output value of 2 billion yuan. Now, 340 million yuan has been invested to achieve an annual production capacity of 200000 tons.

Machinery and electrical industry: there are 11 motor and precision casting enterprises including Tiangong power, Haihong machinery, Ruibang metal, Yuanfeng machinery, Yingtuo precision, Fushan wind power, etc.

Furniture and wood industry: in the industrial park, Huanmei furniture, Meisen wood, Bofu wood, Xinxing home, international furniture city and other wood processing industries have become the main enterprises.
