Zhejiang Yuhuan Economic Development Zone, formerly known as Yuhuan Damaiyu Economic Development Zone, was built in June 1992, upgraded to provincial economic development zone with the approval of the provincial people's Government in November 1993, and renamed Yuhuan Economic Development Zone in 2005.

On December 5, 2008, the Standing Committee of Yuhuan County Party committee decided to integrate Yuhuan economic development zone from Damaiyu to Xuanmen phase II reclamation area, mainly developing Xuanmen phase II reclamation area, County Auto Park, sightseeing agricultural park, etc. In July 2010, the integration and upgrading plan of Zhejiang Yuhuan economic development zone was officially approved by the provincial government. In January 2011, the fifth session of the 13th Party Congress of the county decided to bring Xuanmen phase III into the development space of Yuhuan economic development zone. Yuhuan economic development zone is composed of ecological leisure area, urban central area, start-up block, lake landscape belt and other blocks, with a planning control area of 85 square kilometers. In 2010, the total industrial output value was 5.515 billion yuan, up 48.25% year on year.
