Tongqin town is located in the southeast of Wuyi County, at the junction of Yongkang City, 12.26 km away from the county seat and 8 km away from Yongkang Hardware City. In 1956, it was called Heping Town. In 1957, it was merged with Huifeng Township and established as Tuanjie Township. In 1958, it was the Tongqin management area of National Day commune. In 1961, Tongqin commune was established. In 1983, Tongqin township was established. In 1986, it was changed into Tongqin town. In 1992, it was merged into Tongqin town due to the withdrawal and expansion of Lubei township.

Tongqin pear, also known as Hangzhou pear, is big, sweet, crisp and full of water. It is abundant from late July to early August.
