Zhonglou District Zhonglou district belongs to Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It is located in the west of Changzhou City. It is connected with Tianning District in the East and Southeast, Wujin District in the West and southwest, and Xinbei District in the north. It is the political, economic, cultural, financial and trade center of Changzhou.

With a total area of 133 square kilometers and a permanent resident population of 620000, Zhonglou district has jurisdiction over one Zou District Town, one provincial-level Zhonglou economic development zone and seven sub district offices, including Beigang, Xinzha, Wuxing, Yonghong, Xilin, Nandajie and Hehuachi. It has 58 administrative villages and 49 community neighborhood committees.

In October 2018, Zhonglou district was selected as one of the top 100 science and technology innovation zones in 2018, top 100 green development zones in 2018 and top 100 science and technology innovation zones in 2019.

Historical evolution

The Bell Tower district is named after the bell tower built in the Southern Tang Dynasty.

In 1913, Changzhou was divided into five districts: the East, the south, the west, the north and the middle. Now the Bell Tower district belongs to the West District, including Xizhi, Xicang, dahuanan, Chengyi, Chenger, Xiyou, Beizhi and beibanxiang.

In 1929, Fangxiang was abandoned and township system was implemented.

According to the report on the work of the first District Office of Wujin County published in 1930, the new town is named Nanyun town in the old 19 capitals and Taiping Town in the old one capitals. In addition, there are Wolong Town, Guanghua Town, Guangfu Township, Puji town and Sanbao town.

In 1947, seven towns were merged into two big towns, namely Jingchuan town (Guanghua Town, Nanyun Town, Guangfu town) and Yongfeng town (Taiping Town, Wolong Town, Puji Town, Sanpu town).

On April 23, 1949, Changzhou was liberated and the town system was retained. In August, Jingchuan and Yongfeng towns were abolished and "the Third District Office of Changzhou City" was established.

In 1950, the third district office was abolished. In 1952, the people's Government of the western district was established, with jurisdiction over Biaochang and Huinong in the East, xinhetan in the south, xiquanmen in the west, Sanbao street in the West and Hongqiao in the north.

In September 1955, the northern district was abolished, and qianhouwan, Hehuachi, Beidajie, Xianxiang, Fubei, xianzhijie and Lunan were put under the jurisdiction of the western district. In November, the western district was renamed Bell Tower district.

In March 1956, the system of Bell Tower district was abolished. In July, Dongheng street, xiheng Street South, and Luxi and Xiaohe Road West of Hualong lane were under the jurisdiction of Beida street. The Bell Tower district was restored in September 1957.

In April 2015, Zou District of Wujin District was under the jurisdiction of Zhonglou District of Changzhou City.
