Pingshan District, belonging to Benxi City, Liaoning Province, is located in the southeast of Liaoning Province and the hinterland of Liaodong Peninsula. It is the political, economic, cultural and business center of Benxi City.
Pingshan district has nine streets under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 177 square kilometers, accounting for 2.1% of the city's area. Among them, the urban area is 17 square kilometers, accounting for 24.6% of the city's urban area, with a population of 361000 (2007).
In 2007, the GDP of the whole region reached 2.721 billion yuan, an increase of 25.4% over 2006 at comparable prices. Taihe District has Pingdingshan, Wangxi Park and other famous tourist attractions.
Historical evolution
Pingshan district is named after Pingdingshan, the highest mountain in the city. As early as in Yao Dynasty, this area belonged to Qingzhou; in Shun Dynasty, it belonged to Yingzhou; in Yu Dynasty, it belonged to Qingzhou; in Shang Dynasty, it belonged to Yingzhou; in Zhou Dynasty, it belonged to Youzhou.
In the Warring States period and Yan Dynasty, it belonged to Liaodong County of Yan state; in Qin Dynasty, it belonged to Xiangping County of Liaodong county.
In the early Han Dynasty, it was Liaodong County; in the reign of Emperor Wu, it was under the jurisdiction of Youzhou; in the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was changed to xuantu county.
During the Three Kingdoms period, the area belonged to Xiangping County of Liaodong state (county) in the Wei and Jin Dynasties, which was under the jurisdiction of Pingzhou; during the "Sixteen Kingdoms" period, the area belonged to Qianyan first, then to Houyan, Beiyan, Beiwei, and then to Gaogouli, and then to Baiyan County of Liaoyang Prefecture in Tokyo road.
During the reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty, it belonged to Liaocheng Prefecture. During the reign of Jin Dynasty, it belonged to Shicheng County of Liaoyang Prefecture.
In Yuan Dynasty, it belonged to Liaoyang County, Dongning Prefecture, Liaoyang road.
In the early Ming Dynasty, it belonged to Caohe qianhusuo first, and then to dongningwei.
After the completion of Benxi Section of Anfeng railway in 1904, the Gongyuan railway station here gradually became the local freight distribution center, and the surrounding population was increasing.
In 1937, the construction of Gongyuan district began. After several years of development, it has initially formed an urban pattern with Gongyuan railway station as the center, factory area in the West and residential buildings in the East.
In the 29th year of the Republic of China (1941), the Japanese puppets formally established the Miyagi district.
In August 1945, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the 16th army of Jire Liaohe military area recovered Benxi. In October of the same year, the original 16 districts were changed into 6 districts, namely Hedong, Hexi, caitun, Gongyuan, Dayu and Fujin. At that time, Gongyuan district was located in Yongfeng street.
In May 1946, the Kuomintang troops attacked Benxi area. According to the spirit of the Central Committee's instruction on "establishing a consolidated northeast base", the Gongyuan district Party committee and the district government withdrew from the urban area along with the municipal Party committee and the municipal government. At this point, the Gongyuan district Party committee and the district government have also withdrawn.
In October 1946, after the Kuomintang occupied Benxi, Gongyuan district was changed into Gongyuan district to eliminate the colonial legacy.
On October 30, 1948, after the liberation of Benxi, Gongyuan District Committee and government were established on November 2 of the same year.
On December 1, 1955, with the approval of the State Council, Benxi urban planning plan was formally implemented, and Gongyuan district and caitun district were merged to form Pingshan district. At that time, Pingshan district had 12 sub district offices and 10 village governments.
In July 1957, 12 sub district offices were adjusted to 10, namely, Nandi, Beidi, Gongren, Pingshan, Mingshan, Shuguang, cuidong, caitun, Lijing and Caibei sub district offices.
During the Great Leap Forward period in 1958, people's communes were established one after another.
In July 1968, Pingshan District Revolutionary Committee was established, which has jurisdiction over seven commune revolutionary committees.
In January 1979, seven commune revolutionary committees were renamed seven neighborhood offices.
In September 1983, Pingshan District added 8 new sub district offices. So far, there are 15 sub district offices in the whole district.
In January 1985, the whole city was divided into four districts, namely Pingshan District, Mingshan District, Xihu District and Nanfen District. After the re zoning, Pingshan district has nine sub district offices including Nandi, Gongren, Qianjin, Fujin, Guangming, Pingshan, Dongming, cuidong, Zhanqian and Qiaotou township.
In 1986, with the approval of the provincial government, Qiaotou township was divided into Qiaotou town and Beitai town.
In June 2000, nine sub district offices were merged into seven, namely Zhanqian, cuidong, Dongming, Pingshan, Gongren, Nandi and Qianjin sub district offices.
In January 2002, the state carried out the policy of "removing villages and merging towns", and Beitai town was changed into Beitai sub district office.

Pingshan district belongs to the hilly terrain of Eastern Liaoning Province. The terrain is high in the South and low in the north, surrounded by mountains. There are thousands of rocks and gullies, nine big and small mountains, as well as Xihe River, Qianjin River and Taizi River. It is known as eight mountains, one water and one farmland. Among the mountains, Pingdingshan, with an altitude of 657.8 meters, is the first mountain in Benxi City.
Climatic characteristics
Pingshan district has a continental climate of north temperate zone, with the highest temperature of 38 ℃ and the lowest temperature of minus 37 ℃. The frost free period is about 140 days, the annual rainfall is more than 800 mm, and the freezing period is about 120 days. It is warm and rainy in summer and cold in winter.
Hydrological condition
There are Xihe River, Qianjin River and Taizi River flowing through Pingshan district. Taizi River is one of the larger rivers in Liaoning Province, flowing through Benxi. Taizi River was called Yanshui in ancient times, Daliang River in Han Dynasty, Dongliang River in Liao Dynasty, Wulu Hula River in Jin Dynasty, and reed river in Manchu. It is known as Taizi River in Ming Dynasty and Taizi River in Qing Dynasty.

At the end of 2007, there were 120800 households and 361000 people in the region. The total number of agricultural population in the region was 16938, 234 less than that in 2006; the total number of registered births in the region was 1702, the birth rate was 4.74 ‰, 0.24 thousand points higher than that in 2006; 1035 people died, the death rate was 2.88 ‰, 0.45 thousand points lower than that in 2006; the natural growth rate was 1.86 ‰, 0.69 thousand points higher than that in 2006. Among them, 1247 moved in and 8892 moved out of the province, 1314 moved in and 1048 moved out of the province. There are 29 ethnic groups in Pingshan District, including Han, Manchu, Hui, Mongolian and Korean.

The afforestation area of the whole region is 500 mu, and more than 94000 trees of various types are planted. The forest volume is 412800 cubic meters. There were 248 specialized breeding households, and the annual output of meat, eggs and milk was 7330 tons, an increase of 3.5% over 2006.
