In Chinese, Pinyin is x ì Xu é zh ī Ku ī, which means to describe persistent efforts to achieve the goal. It comes from after the memorial book of Taicang wangzhongtang.

The origin of Idioms
Gong Zizhen in Qing Dynasty wrote "after the memorial book of Taicang wangzhongtang", which said that "in the 56th, 59th and 60th years of Kangxi, he held the loyalty of mole ants and showed off his insight. He invited the emperor to set up a book for the crown prince, more than ten years before and after the memorial book."
