"Falling leaves to return to the roots" is a comedy film produced by Hong Kong Xinghao Entertainment Co., Ltd., directed by Zhang Yang and written by Wang Yao. Zhao Benshan, Song Dandan, Hong Qiwen, Hu Jun, Guo Degang, Xia Yu, Guo Tao, Liao Fan, Wu Ma and other actors are co stars. The film premiered in mainland China on January 19, 2007.
The film tells the story of migrant worker Lao Zhao who carries Liu's body back to his hometown after going through all kinds of difficulties in order to make his good friend Liu "fall to his roots" after his death.
Synopsis
Lao Zhao < I > (Zhao Benshan) < / I > is a farmer in his fifties. He went south to Shenzhen to work, but his good friend Lao Liu < I > (Hong Qi Wen) < / I > died on the construction site, so he decided to go back to his hometown to bury Lao Liu. Lao Zhao disguises Lao Liu as a drunkard and gets on the coach, but meets a robber on the way < I > (Guo Degang) < / I >. Lao Zhao vowed to protect Lao Liu's compensation, won the respect of the robbers, but also saved a car of people's property. But because he exposed his body, he was driven out of the car by passengers instead. So, Lao Zhao had to stop the car on the road, pretending Lao Liu to be an emergency patient, and met a kind-hearted person to send them to the hospital. When staying in the shop at night, the people who were sleeping with him stole the money while Lao Zhao was asleep. So, he pretended to be a beggar again; to eat, he went to other people's funerals to cry; to cover up the spot, he asked the hairdresser to make up for him. When his hometown was in sight, he encountered a debris flow and could only defeat nature by willpower. When Lao Zhao and Lao Liu returned to their hometown, they found that their hometown had been destroyed and the villagers had moved away.
