The origin of Idioms

Chen Shou's biography of Zhuge Ke in the annals of the Three Kingdoms in the Jin Dynasty: "ZHUGE Ke's character is inferior to Jin's eldest son. Pei Songzhi's annotation quoted Jin Yu Pu's biography of Jiang Biao: "it's true that Lantian produces jade."

Idiom usage

A good father begets a good son. During the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Jin, the great general of the eastern Wu Dynasty, was named Ziyu. He had a son named zhugeke, who was clever, eloquent and good at speech. Sun Quan was very fond of him. Once, Sun Quan held a banquet in the imperial court, and Zhuge Ke, a six-year-old, attended with his father. Zhuge Jin's face is very long. Sun Quan wanted to make fun of him. He asked someone to bring a donkey and wrote "ZHUGE Ziyu" on the donkey's long face to ridicule Zhuge Jin's face. When they saw it, zhugejin was very embarrassed. When Zhuge Ke saw him, he went to Sun Quan's seat and knelt down to write two words. Sun Quan ordered people to bring the pen to him. Zhuge Ke added the word "donkey" after the word "ZHUGE Ziyu", thus becoming "ZHUGE Ziyu's donkey". All the ministers were surprised and impressed. Sun Quan was very happy to see Zhuge Ke so smart, and gave him the donkey on the spot. Another time, Sun Quan asked Zhuge Ke, "who is your father superior to your uncle Zhuge Liang?" Zhuge Ke replied, "my father is brilliant." When Sun Quan asked him to explain the reason, he said without hesitation, "my father knows how to serve the Lord of Ming Dynasty, but my uncle doesn't know this truth. Of course, my father is wise." Sun Quan said to Zhuge Jin, "people say that Lantian produces beautiful jade and a famous family produces virtuous people. It's really worthy of its reputation."
