clouds and mud - yún ní zhī bié

Broken string - qín duàn zhū xián

be in straitened circumstances - zuǒ zhī yòu chù

It's not worth a cent - bù zhí yī qián

deep maternal love - yàn kǔ tǔ gān

gather a crowd and make disturbances - jù zhòng zī shì

be never seen without a book in hand - shǒu bù shì juàn

approach somebody's greatness - wàng qí xiàng bèi
