A thousand words is a film directed by Xu Anhua. Huang Qiusheng, Li Lizhen and others took part in the performance. This film is another film named after Teresa Teng's song after "sweet honey" (1996). The melody of "a thousand words" runs through the whole film: "I don't know why, sadness surrounds me.". The film is a political topic film wrapped in love. It reflects the major events of the 1970s and 1980s in Hong Kong. It is a realistic journey of Hong Kong memories and reviews the course of the local intellectuals in Hong Kong consciously challenging Hong Kong and Britain.

Synopsis

A dazed young woman, wandering in the street, has no memory, has got rid of the past. She is Su Fengdi (Li Lizhen) who grew up in a boat house. A fire broke out in a safe harbor and took away her family. With the support of her friends, she devoted herself to fighting for the rights of boat owners and other vulnerable groups. In the past, she was surrounded by three men: Li Shaodong, her best friend of the same age, who she met when she was young because of theft; Qiu mingkuan, a college student who led her into the field of social movement; and Gan Zai, the spiritual mentor of Shaodong, an Italian priest. Shaodong is deeply in love with her, but he can only see her suspicious of mingkuan, who is full of ideals and sense of mission. Shaodong had no choice but to settle for his favorite music. Despite the opposition of his comrades, Qiu mingkuan, who is determined to run for public office, was successfully elected as a district Councillor and married his girlfriend who has been in love for many years, but he is still entangled with Su. Unfortunately, Su is pregnant with Qiu's child, so she asks Shaodong to take her to Shenzhen for an abortion. Shaodong, who has mixed feelings and is at a loss, exiles herself to the mainland, and Su and Qiu finally break up. On June 4, 1989, when the news broke out in Tiananmen Square, the fate of the three met again.
