Li He, formerly known as Hong Lvhe, has a pen name of Xiao Li. Born in February 1918 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. In 1933, he graduated from middle school and went to Xiamen University for one year's further study. The next year, he formally entered Xiamen University and joined the Communist Youth League to engage in progressive activities. Later, due to his identity exposure, he transferred to Sun Yat sen University for further study. In 1938, he studied in Yan'an Anti Japanese university for half a year. During this period, he joined the Communist Party of China. In the winter of 1938, he was appointed by the party to work in Xinjiang. He used to work for the international edition of Xinjiang Daily and Xinhua news agency. In March 1950, he and his wife Qu Duyi were appointed by the organization to establish the Moscow branch of Xinhua news agency in the Soviet Union. After 1950, he successively served as a special correspondent of Xinhua news agency in Moscow, a reporter of people's daily in Moscow, and deputy director of the international information department.
