Tu Shen (1744-1801) was an official and novelist in Qing Dynasty. Xianshu, Huyan, leizhushan, Shuyu, zhuwushan, Jiangyin, Jiangsu. Born in the ninth year of Qianlong (1744), died in the sixth year of Jiaqing (1801). He has been farming for generations and lost his father when he was young. He entered Yixiang at the age of 13. In 1763, he became a Jinshi and was granted the county magistrate of Shizong County in Yunnan Province. At the age of 53, he served as a general judge in Guangzhou. Jiaqing six years (1801) alternate into the capital, sudden death in the guest house. He is generous and bold. He admires Tang Xianzu most in his life. He is also lustful and has many wives and concubines. He is a poetry friend with Hong Liangji and Huang Jingren.

List of works

Tu Shen wrote two novels, Liuhe's inside and outside Suoyan, and the ancient Chinese novel Zhuoshi, which contains 20 volumes. Taking the uprising of the ethnic minorities (mainly the Miao people) in Qing Dynasty as the background, the history of Jue describes the confrontation between the government and the uprising army. It ended with the victory of the government and the defeat of the rebel army. In the description of the war scenes, the author absorbed the writing method of fighting magic novels. Although the writing is ancient and abstruse, it has magical color. Although the author tries to attack the leader of the rebel army for his licentiousness, he also exposes the dark corruption of the official system in Qing Dynasty. Lu Xun praised it as a unique style in the history of novels. Tu Shen also wrote Hu Yan Shi Chao, e Ting Shi Hua and so on, with Shen Xieyuan's Tu Shen chronicle.
