Sun yuanyan is a poet in the late Tang Dynasty. Jiangning (now Nanjing) people. There is no proof of life story.

There are seventy-five poems in a volume of Six Dynasties chanting epics written by Yuan Yan, all of which are seven character quatrains. They chant the characters of Wu, Eastern Jin, song, Qi, Liang and Chen dynasties respectively, and they are in harmony with Hu Zeng's chanting epics.

It is said in the fourth volume of Jinling poetry collection that "those who chant Jinling events as an episode actually started from Yuan and Yan dynasties." Later historical stories are also quoted from time to time. There are also three volumes of the history of the north, which are also epic poems. There is a volume of his poems in Quan Tang Shi.
