Xiang Rizhen, a handsome Chengdu native, was cheated into learning opera in Liyuan at the age of 14. His brother found out that he was studying Dan in a troupe in Chongqing. He found the troupe and wanted to redeem him, but the troupe leader didn't let him go.

The magistrate pointed to a small cypress tree in front of the Yamen and called Xiang Rizhen to write poems on this topic. The magistrate decided the case immediately: redemption. In the same year, Xiang Rizhen was selected into the county school. In the 47th year of Kangxi (1708), Xiang Rizhen solved yuan (the first place in the whole family) in the middle and high school of rural examination. The next year, Xiang Rizhen was selected as a Jinshi in the Imperial Academy.
In the 60th year of Kangxi reign (1721), Xiang Rizhen was appointed as the examiner of the examination. Later, he was promoted to the censor of Guangdong Province. In the first year of Yongzheng reign (1723), Xiang Rizhen, as a censor, took the post of examiner again. At the end of Yongzheng, Xiang Rizhen retired and went home.
