Pan Jifu

(1012-1093), named Xianchen, was born in Renzong period of Northern Song Dynasty. He was born in chaixu, Taixing, Jiangsu Province (now Gaogang Port Street). He wrote 30 volumes of anthology.

Pan Jifu

(1012-1093), named Xianchen, was born in the reign of Renzong in the Northern Song Dynasty. He was born in chaixu, Taixing, Jiangsu Province. In his youth, he studied Confucian classics under the guidance of Hu Yuan, one of the pioneers of Neo Confucianism in the Northern Song Dynasty. Hu saw that his articles were extraordinary and highly valued, which made up for his academic position and then began to enter the official career. In the 40 years of Pan's family, there were eight scholars in the Jinshi Section, which was known as the "first class" in Taixing. In the second year of Qingli (1042) of the Northern Song Dynasty, he ascended the Jinshi Section. Later, he successively served as county captain of Huairen (now Huairen County, Shanxi Province), general judge of Junzhou (now Gao'an County, Jiangxi Province), magistrate of Fenning (now Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province), Huoqiu (now Huoqiu County, Anhui Province) and Shouchun (now Shouxian County, Anhui Province). Because of his political voice, he was changed to Wei Secretary Cheng and professor of chuwanggong University. During his tenure of office, pan Jifu strictly established his studies and set an example by asking the royal family members to know the rites and observe the law. As a result, he won the praise of emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, and was promoted to the rank of tuntian yuanwailang, Jiangzhou (today's Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province) Tongtan and Zuo chaosanlang. During his term of office, he built water conservancy, and Fenning county was renamed "Xiushui county"; he actively did good deeds for his hometown. After the waterfront area was flooded, he wrote to the court to extend tax reduction. After all previous posts, he returned to his hometown, continued to inherit Hu Yuan's educational thoughts, established learning and teaching staff, and founded panjiazhuang school in his hometown. Pan Jifu used to inspire himself with high ambition, which was reflected in his articles, words and deeds. At that time, officials and scholars of later generations regarded him as a model and enjoyed communication with him. He was able to treat the poor, the widowed, the orphaned and the young with kindness and comfort. In his later years, he suffered from eye disease and was unable to read, so he ordered his nephew to read it to him. Moreover, pan Jifu sat up and listened to it all day without any tiredness. The day before Xie Shiqian, he was still in bed, listening to and reading the book of Han Dynasty and the book of Northern Zhou Dynasty, and dictating poems to his relatives and friends. After his death, he was buried at Fulong bridge. He has 30 volumes of anthology.
