Born in Sicily, Italy, in 1801, he began to study music at the age of 3 and entered Naples Conservatory of music at the age of 18. After graduation, he was engaged in music creation and made his debut in the operas Adelson and salvina and Bianca and Fernando. The pirate, written in 1827, was performed successfully at the lascara opera house in Milan. Since then, he has created many operas, which have been performed in Milan, Parma, Venice and other places. He visited London in 1833 and Paris in 1835. He wrote the opera Puritan for the Italian opera house in Paris and won world reputation. On September 23 of the same year, he died of illness in the city of pito near Paris.

Bellini is not as enthusiastic about the creation of harmonic opera as his contemporaries. The only opera with comic flavor is his first stage work Adelson and Savina (1825), which contains a comic bass singing in Naples dialect.

His operas are full of romantic features, especially the melodic beauty. Chopin and Verdi are influenced by them in their melodic writing. Besides Norma, sleepwalker and Puritan have long been popular with opera audiences. Many arias in his operas are still regarded as classic teaching materials of bel canto.
