As the only key theater in Yunnan Province, it has been undertaking the task of art exchange between Yunnan Province and foreign countries, both inside and outside the province since 1950s. On its stage, wonderful performances by artists from all over the world are constantly emerging, and the majestic movement and dancing posture are displayed here. At the same time, as a window for foreign exchange, Yunnan Art Theater has sent dozens of songs and dances with national characteristics to Southeast Asian countries, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, etc.

It is reported that due to the demolition of Kunming hall, Yunnan Yang Liping Culture Communication Co., Ltd.'s large-scale original song and Dance Collection "Yunnan image" has been officially relocated to Yunnan Art Theater for performance since May 1, 2011. So far, Yunnan Art Theater is still the resident performance theater of "Yunnan image".
