Xinhua Village was originally known as shizhaizi, and Bai People's name was "wrinkled", which means: a stockade built of stones. This name was used from Zhuge village during the period of Warring States, Qin and Han Dynasties along the Southern Silk Road to the Tang and Song Dynasties when Yunnan, Tibet, tea and horses traded. After liberation, the villagers changed their name to Xinhua Village to reflect their determination and ambition of building a new countryside in New China, implying "new glory".
