Zhang Xueliang residence

Before and after the September 18th Incident, Zhang Xueliang was a man of the hour, but he played a tragic role. After 1933, he came to Shanghai three times and had three apartments. The first time was in March 1933, when he sent a telegram across the country and prepared to go abroad for investigation. Then he came to Shanghai from Peking. Song Ziwen arranged for him to live at 181 Fuxu Road (now Yan'an Middle Road), where he gave up drug addiction. A month later, he went to Europe. The second time was in 1934 when he came back to China. When he arrived in Shanghai, he stayed in the villa No.2 on Moli Ai Road (today's Xiangshan Road). Tan Hai, his bodyguard's adjutant, found the garden villa No.1 on gaonaiyi Road (today's Gaolan Road) and rented it. Zhao Yidi (Miss Zhao SI) also went down from Beiping to live here. Soon after, Zhang Xueliang took up the post of camp director of Wuchang and left Shanghai. However, Miss Zhao Si often came to live here, so she was called "Zhang Xueliang mansion".

Zhang Xueliang residence

Located at No. 60 Jianguo Road, Xi'an City, Zhang Xueliang residence consists of three western style buildings with brick and wood structure. This is the place where patriotic general Zhang Xueliang once lived and the place where Xi'an incident shocked China and foreign countries.

In 1935, Zhang Xueliang went to Xi'an. From October to late December, he went from Xi'an to Nanjing to attend the Sixth Plenary Session of the fourth Central Committee of the Kuomintang and the Fifth National Congress. In the middle of December, he came to Shanghai and lived in the western style house at No.1 Gaolan road. During his stay in Shanghai, he visited Du Chongyuan, a famous patriot and fellow townsman in Northeast China. Du was sentenced for breaking the "diplomatic relations" because of the article "gossip about the emperor" published by Xinsheng weekly, which was edited by Du. Progressive people from all walks of life all over the country protested one after another. The Kuomintang authorities had to let him go on bail for medical treatment and stay in the hospital. Zhang Xueliang talked about the dangerous situation in China and asked him how to save the nation. Du Chongyuan clearly told him that we must change the policy of "to keep the country safe before resisting foreign aggression" in order to unite the people of the whole country against Japan. Zhang Xueliang also visited Li Du, the general of the Northeast volunteer army who was going abroad. Li Du urged him to talk with the Chinese Communists and introduced Liu Ding, the representative of the Chinese Communist Party. Zhang Xueliang also held a banquet at No. 1 Gaolan road to discuss the good policy of saving the country. Although he was only in Shanghai for a few days, he began to contact with the Communist Party of China and actively looked for ways to resist Japan and save the country.

Gaolan road No.1 is a Spanish style three story garden house, adjacent to Fuxing Park, with a milky white exterior wall. The entrance is a protruding two-story building, the downstairs is an aisle, the west is rectangular, the downstairs has a corridor in the south, and the second floor has a balcony. The main building covers an area of about 800 square meters. There is a hall downstairs, which is the place for banquet. The reception room is on the second floor, and the bedrooms of Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi are on the third floor. It is a Spanish style suite with a Spanish style big bed, which is imitated as it is. There is a platform of 20 square meters outside the house. There is a large garden in front of the building, covering an area of about 1000 square meters. It is now called Diyuan. In the garden, Cinnamomum camphora, Cedrus, wisteria, Magnolia, Cinnamomum cassia and Cinnamomum cassia are planted. The lawn is Manila style, and there are swings for several people. Gaolan road was a short road. On the sidewalk, there were large French Wutong trees, covered with branches and leaves, and beside the park. It was a very peaceful place, but Zhang Xueliang lived in a very short time.

present situation

After liberation, this building used to be the general office of Luwan District Federation of industry and Commerce and Luwan District Democratic founding Association. It was overhauled and protected in 1992 and 1994. Now it is used as the guest house of Shanghai Real Estate Administration Bureau. Several rooms are named Jingxue hall, Muliang hall, Yiqing hall and Shaoshuai hall respectively. The photos of Zhang Xueliang and Zhao Yidi and Zhang Xueliang's handwriting are hung on the inner wall of the hall. This is Zhang Xueliang's only handwriting in Shanghai.

Zhang Xueliang's residence is close to Sun Yat Sen's former residence. You can also visit Zhou's residence and Mei Lanfang's former residence along Sinan road.
