Lanxi Youth Park is located in the middle of Putuo District. East of Lanxi Road, south of the District Central Hospital, west of Huaxi Road, north of Caoyang village, and the main gate of the garden is at 151 Lanxi road.

Development history

Gongqing orchard

The site was originally a sloping farmland on the North Bank of Qiujiang River, with a wasteland grave and a temple. It was called Dongshe temple. During the Anti Japanese War, the temple was destroyed by Japanese invaders. After liberation, it was expropriated for the construction of Putuo hospital, and then abandoned for various reasons. In 1957, in order to realize the idea of self-sufficiency of funds, the district was taken over by the labor and production committee. The Communist Youth League and District Committee mobilized young people to do voluntary labor, reclaim the ruins, plant fruit trees such as peaches, pears, apples and grapes, dig ponds to raise fish, and establish a "common green orchard". In 1980, more than ten square meters of land in the North was allocated to Putuo District Central Hospital, which eventually became the size of the current site. As one of the three scenic spots of huanbang, it began to develop in 1981. In 1982, the construction design was initially completed. After two years of construction, it was named Lanxi road and Gongqing orchard.

Scenery in the garden

At the beginning of its construction, the park echoed the greening of huanbang south bank, forming a unified whole, belonging to the category of Modern Natural layout, with simple design lines. There are three central scenic spots in the park: the entrance scene, the original fountain, backed by the sculpture of "women textile workers", has been built into an external square with European style by the end of 1998. To the right of the entrance, you can find another scene on the river bank. It is composed of a flat top umbrella Pavilion, a flower wall, and a paved floor Square in the middle. It is a concentrated activity site for tourists. In the northeast corner, there is a small square with a circular flower bed as the center, which is the third scene. Although there are few garden sketches, sitting under the wisteria corridor on the north side and looking at the South Bank of huanbang, it has a unique flavor.

Main attractions

In 1986, in order to coordinate with the adjustment of huanbang scenic spot and enrich the park landscape, Bangnan green space was designated as the inner landscape of the park, and a new stone arch bridge "Guixiang bridge" and "Lanxi boat" waterside pavilion were built. Against the backdrop of a large palm forest, waterside pavilions, docks and curved bridges form a new landscape with winding paths and different scenery.

There are two more valuable points in the park:

A century old walnut tree

One is a walnut tree behind the wisteria veranda, with a diameter at breast height of 45 cm and full of branches every year. In 1998, according to the city's landscaping experts, the tree is 111 years old, which is recognized as the city's famous ancient tree (No. 1401). It is one of the rare woody oil trees in the city, and the only walnut tree over 100 years old in the city. It is specially protected during the construction of the park A third scenic spot was established.

Bench mark stone

Another remains in the garden is a national first-class bench mark stone, which was erected in 1923 and numbered as No. 157. This stone has gone through many vicissitudes. Although it has been abandoned, it is still a demonstration of modern surveying history as an early surveying mark of the city.
