Helu city site of Wu capital

Helucheng site is located between Chengcheng village of Xueyan town in Wujin and Hushan village of Hudai town in Wuxi, covering an area of about 1 million square meters. It is a city site in the middle of spring and Autumn period. The site is rectangular, about 1300 meters long from east to west and 800 meters wide from north to south. In the middle of the city, there is a remnant city wall separated from each other, forming two square cities in the East and the West. The east city is smaller, in Wuxi; the west city is larger, mostly in Wujin. The remnant height of the city wall is 3-4 meters, and the wall base is about 20 meters thick, all of which are made of rammed earth. There are no remains of city walls in the East and the West. Zhihu harbor (a part of Lujiang River) with a width of about 30-40 meters is used as a trench to cut off from the outside world. There are 6-30 meters of moats on the other three sides, with a total length of about 4000 meters. There are natural villages such as Zhoujia, Chengcheng and Dongcheng in the city, with five bridges connecting with the outside world.
