Shanglin Temple

Shanglin temple, located in the northern suburb of Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province, is a scenic spot in the middle of Hunan Province.

Shanglin temple has been turned into a forest park.

Historical evolution

Shanglin Taoist temple was built for a long time, which is hard to test. It flourished in Sui and Tang Dynasties. At the end of Tang Dynasty, it became Shanglin nunnery and became a Buddhist place. At the end of Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Shanglin temple. According to legend, the monks in the temple were once famous for the Emperor Taizong of Tang Dynasty who had injured their eyes and restored the Ming Dynasty to the throne.

Prosperous period

It was only in the middle of the last century that the incense was destroyed by the Japanese artillery and the "Cultural Revolution".

In order to comply with the believers' wish to cultivate virtue, the relevant departments decided to restore the Buddhist activity site of Chongguang Shanglin temple. Since 2003, they have allocated more than 20 mu of mountainous area to rebuild Shanglin temple. Master Zhiru, the abbot of Luohan temple in Hengyang City, has been invited to preside over the rebuilding of Shanglin temple. The scale of Shanglin temple is magnificent, which not only respects the traditional jungle rules, but also adapts to the modern practice.

Layout structure

Shanglin temple is composed of main buildings such as mountain gate, Tianwang hall, Daxiong hall, shuotang hall, Abbot's room, sutra collection hall, Sansheng hall, reception hall, Qianshou Guanyin hall, Jialan hall, Zen hall, Zhaitang hall, Hakka hall, ancestral hall, bell drum tower, Jushi tower, and subsidiary buildings such as release pool, merit tablet, pavilion, and corridor.

According to the situation, the halls are well arranged, symmetrical and orderly, with red walls and yellow tiles, cornices and angles, and antique. In addition to the deep forest and beautiful mountains and rivers, it is a wonderful place for practice and meditation, and a tourist and leisure resort.

Cultural heritage

Thanks to the strong support of Zhuzhou municipal government at all levels and the generous donations of people from all walks of life, the reconstruction of Shanglin temple has been carried out smoothly.

At present, the temple has a certain scale, and more and more believers come to the temple to burn incense and worship Buddha. On this basis, the four disciples work together to strive for the construction of the temple to be improved as soon as possible, so that Shanglin temple will become not only a special place for religious people to study Buddhism, but also a tourist resort. It will play a very huge role in building a harmonious society, and truly become a place worthy of the name It is the base of the construction of social spiritual civilization.

Main buildings

main hall

The main hall has seven rooms, double eaves and surrounding fences. It is 21.8 meters high and has a building area of 828 square meters. It can accommodate more than 1000 people to worship Buddha. The three main Buddha statues are carved with ancient camphor and gilded with gold. The statues of Sakyamuni, pharmacist Buddha and Amitabha Buddha are about 10 meters high. The base of the hall is the eight treasure King Kong seat. The Guanyin statue is suspended behind the screen wall. There are eighteen Arhats on both sides stand.

Buddism godness Guanyin Temple

The statue of Avalokitesvara with thousand hands and thousand eyes is 9.9 meters high, and 9999 Avalokitesvara with thousand hands and thousand eyes are made for the believers to welcome.

Jushi building

Jushi building is a three story antique building with more than 300 sets, each with an area of about 20 m2, and an independent toilet. There are one, two and three settlements, mainly for the long-term and short-term residents.

Reception hall

According to the layout of double eaves courtyard, the building area is 600 square meters. In the hall, there are bodhisattvas of Yin, Guanyin, dashizhi and dizang, and five colors of gold, red, yellow, white and green lotus are set up for longevity. They can be used by those who have contributed to the temple or converted to Buddhism.
