Wangjianglou ancient building complex is located in the southeast of Chengdu, Sichuan Province, 1km southeast of Jiuyanqiao and on the West Bank of Fuhe River. It is said that it was the former residence of Xue Tao (759-831), a poetess of the Tang Dynasty. The existing Wangjianglou ancient building complex was built in 1889. It is mainly composed of Chongli Pavilion, poetry reciting tower, HuanJian Pavilion, Wuyun fairy hall, etc. Chongli Pavilion is magnificent and beautiful. It is a wooden structure with a height of more than 30 meters. It has four floors. The upper two floors are octagonal, and the lower two floors are quadrangular. It has gilt roofs, yellow ridges, green tiles and Zhu columns, and high eaves. It is named after the meaning of "both beautiful and worshipful" in Zuosi's Shu Du Fu of Jin Dynasty.

Main buildings

It is composed of Wangjiang tower (chonglige in ancient times), Zhuojin tower, HuanJian Pavilion, Wuyun fairy hall, Liubei pool and Quanxiang Pavilion. It was built here in the Ming and Qing Dynasties in memory of Xue Tao, a famous poetess of the Tang Dynasty.

Historical development

The most magnificent building of Wangjianglou ancient building complex is chonglige, which is 39 meters high. Its name is derived from Shudu Fu written by Zuo Si, a writer of Jin Dynasty: "it's both beautiful and worshipful, and it's really called Chengdu". Because Chongli Pavilion stands on the Bank of Jinjiang River, it is called "Wangjiang tower" by the people. Chongli pavilion was built in 1886 and completed in 1889. Chonglige has 4 floors, the upper two floors are octagonal, and the lower two floors are square. Each floor of the roof and other places are decorated with exquisite animal clay and figure carving. Chonglige's ancient wooden architecture is famous for its magnificence and magnificence. It has long been a landmark building in Chengdu. Chonglige, Zhuojin building, Wuyun fairy hall and Yinshi building, together with quanxiangxie, pipamenxiang, Qingwan room and HuanJian Pavilion, constitute a memorial complex. With exquisite layout and peculiar design, they are one of the representative works of Sichuan classical gardens. This ancient building complex does not occupy a large area, but it looks very sparse and has no feeling of congestion, which has a lot to do with the art of spatial layout of the ancient building complex. In 2006, Wangjianglou ancient building complex was recognized as the national key cultural relics protection unit. Wangjianglou park is located in the South Bank of Jinjiang River, Jiuyanqiao, dongmenwai, Chengdu. It covers an area of 176.5 mu. There are willow stone fence, wave light tower shadow, green bamboo path, pavilions and pavilions in the park. The main buildings are Chongli Pavilion, Zhuojin Pavilion, HuanJian Pavilion, wuyunxian Pavilion, liubeichi and quanxiangxie. It was built in memory of Xue Tao, a famous poetess of Tang Dynasty in Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the Republic of China, Wangjianglou park became a famous scenic spot in the city. Now it is a cultural relic protection unit in Sichuan Province.

Architectural features

Wangjianglou (formerly known as chonglige) is the most magnificent building in Wangjianglou park. It was built in 1889. It is 27.9 meters high and has four floors. The lower two floors have square cornices, and the upper two floors have octagonal points. The ridge and sparrow on each floor are decorated with exquisite clay sculptures of animals and figures. Zhuzhu Biwa, Baoding gilded. Because the building is located on the side of Jinjiang River, it is called Wangjiang building. The original name of Wangjiang tower is "chonglige", which is named after the famous sentence "both beautiful and adoring, and the real name is Chengdu" in Zuosi's Shudu Fu. It has become a landmark of Chengdu.

Zhuojin tower is located on the west side of Chongli Pavilion. It has two floors and three rooms. It looks like a boat. In the Han Dynasty, the brocade weaving households in Chengdu often put the brocade into Jinjiang River for washing. Therefore, Jinjiang River is also called Zhuojin River, so Zhuojin tower gets its name. The building is in the shape of a boat. It is said to commemorate Xue Tao's farewell to his close friend Yuan Zhen.

"Looking at the river upstairs, looking at the river, river tower forever, river forever.". Chonglige, also known as Wangjianglou, got its name from Shudu Fu written by Zuo Si, a writer of Jin Dynasty. Chonglige is not only the main building of Wangjianglou Park in Chengdu, but also the landmark of Chengdu, a famous historical and cultural city, with a height of 27.89 meters. In the plane layout, the sharp corner of the square is boldly facing the main passage from Lion Rock to the city on the other side of the river. In this way, chonglige has not only become the main landscape from the east to the city, but also the main landscape from the river to Chengdu.

In Wangjiang Park, the chonglige Pavilion is a wooden roof with four eaves and octagonal glazed tiles. The lower two floors are square, and the upper two floors are octagonal. The structure is exquisite, and the shape and proportion are harmonious. The ridges and bows of each floor are decorated with exquisite animal clay sculptures and figures. There are copper bells hanging on the top of the corner. The breeze blows and the sound is loud. There are wooden ladders in the attic Can be straight up to the top, overlooking the scenery of Chengdu.

The ancient architectural complex composed of Chongli Pavilion, Zhuojin tower, poetry reciting tower and HuanJian pavilion has a free layout, echoing each other and changing scenery step by step. The poetry reciting tower was built by Xue Tao, a poetess of Tang Dynasty. It is elegant and exquisite, reflecting the temperament of a generation of talented women. The Zhuojin tower looks like a boat, but it does not deliberately pursue the shape of a boat, so it has great ingenuity. Since its completion, it has always been the most representative city symbol of people in Shu. Among the buildings, Ginkgo biloba, Ailanthus altissima and Podocarpus arvensis planted in the Qing Dynasty have mottled trunks, which are elegant and vigorous. They are integrated with the simple and elegant buildings, showing the characteristics of the opening and closing of Sichuan gardens and the secluding of winding paths.

Chonglige ancient buildings in Wangjiang Park have a long history, elegant style and beautiful shape. They are the landmark buildings of Chengdu historical and cultural city and the representative of Sichuan classical garden buildings. They have high historical, artistic and scientific value. On May 25, 2006, Wangjiang tower, as an ancient building of the Qing Dynasty, was approved by the State Council to be listed in the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
