Time: 2022-01-29 10:14:12 Author: ChinaWiki.net

Munan road starts from Machang road in the East and ends at Xikang Road in the west, with a total length of 2.08 km. It is second only to Racecourse road in the scale of the Fifth Avenue. The trees on both sides of the road reflect the small western style buildings of different styles. Walking along the road, you can feel that the space scale of the road, house and tree is just right. Since the beginning of the 20th century, there have been many foreign concessions in Tianjin. Foreigners have carried out large-scale construction in the concession according to their own architectural style, leaving behind different forms of buildings. Some foreigners, the old and the young of the Qing Dynasty, warlord compradors and politicians came here to buy real estate. key word

Five Avenue, munan garden, quiet

Some people say that walking on the "five avenues" of Tianjin can pass through time and space to taste the thick history. That's true. Those small western style buildings full of European style seem to be old men of history, telling ancient stories, romantic feelings, poetic and picturesque. On munan Road, one of the five main roads, this feeling is particularly obvious.

historical origin

On the quiet munan Road, in the shade of the south of munan Park, there is an English courtyard style building. This is the former residence of Gao Shuxun, the famous general of "Handan uprising". Gao Shuxun is from Yanshan, Hebei Province. He was from a poor family and joined Feng Yuxiang's army at the age of 18. Because of his integrity and bravery, he gradually rose from an ordinary soldier to the deputy commander of the theater. On October 30, 1948, he led his troops to hold the "Handan uprising" which shocked China and foreign countries and promoted the early liberation of the whole country. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, he was a member of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, a member of the National Defense Commission, and vice governor of Hebei Province. Its former residence has a unique design, with a convex semicircular glass window in the middle of the east side of the building. Clear water brick wall, dark red tile top, wooden balcony, spacious courtyard, shade.

After Guilin road, at the intersection of munan road 74, there are four small buildings with the same floor area and the same architectural style. The four villas are like four graceful girls in the spring breeze. The owner here is Li Ximing, an industrialist. The reason why 4 as like as two peas are built is Li Ximing's property that he should leave to four children.

This western style building was designed and built by Li Ximing himself in 1937 with the help of Austrian architect Gai Ling. Speaking of gailing, he has a deep relationship with Tianjin. Gailing was born in the picturesque Austria in July 1884. Gailing's family has lived in Tianjin for more than 30 years since 1922. Over the past 30 years, Gai Ling has designed and built about 250 buildings in Tianjin, including the Hong Kong building on Machang road and the Minyuan building on Chongqing road.

The villas on munan road are not only Chinese, but also foreigners. Mu Nan Road near Hebei Road, a seemingly ordinary small house once lived an unusual Englishman. He is Nathan, the British general agent of Kailuan coal mine.

Speaking of Nathan, we can't help but recall. After the British invaded China, they plundered China's coal, steel and other natural resources. Kailuan Mining Bureau was the largest British Mining Bureau in China at that time. In 1938, Nathan, on behalf of the British mining side, implemented the "underground work recording system" in Tangshan mines, which caused strong dissatisfaction among the miners. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the five mining areas in Tangshan, headed by Zhao Gezhuang, smashed the underground brand houses and jointly held a 50 day strike. Under the pressure of the workers, Nathan was forced to agree to their terms. However, on the third day after the strike, he signed an "exclusive right" with the Japanese to take over the coal mine. As a result, the Japanese entered the Kailuan mining area and arrested the leaders of the strike. The miners were forced to take up arms, run away from home and embark on the road of Anti Japanese armed struggle. These are the famous ones in history: the Kailuan Minmetals strike and the Jidong uprising.

Walking along Hebei Road, there is a typical English courtyard where Mr. Zhang Xueming, the second younger brother of Zhang Xueliang, once lived. Zhang Xueming's former residence is located at 50 munan Road, built in 1925. Zhang Xueming was appointed director of Tianjin Public Security Bureau in 1931 and later mayor of Tianjin. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, he served as director of Tianjin People's Park, deputy director of the Municipal Engineering Bureau, vice chairman of the Tianjin democratic revolution, and member of the National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference. The building consists of front and back buildings, which are divided into main building and back building. The exterior wall is made of purplish red machine brick, with large tube tile and sloping roof. The overall style is simple and natural, the proportion is balanced and elegant.

Xu Shichang's former residence

At the intersection of Xinhua Road and South harmony Road, there is also a noticeable residence, which is the former residence of Xu Shichang, the president of the Republic of China.

Xu Shichang was born in the residence of caoying street, Weihui City, Henan Province (now Weihui City, Henan Province). In 1918, he was elected president of the national government. In 1922, he was ousted by the direct warlords and returned to Tianjin. He lived in this house for 17 years. In order to show the return of the army and the weariness of state affairs. There is a plaque in the house, named "returning farmland hall". During the Anti Japanese War, Japanese and puppet officials persuaded Xu Shichang to make a comeback and become the leader of North China. Xu Shichang was determined to withdraw from the military and political arena and disappeared behind closed doors until he died in Tianjin on June 5, 1939 at the age of 85.

In addition, on munan Road, there are the former residence of Yan Huiqing, a modern Chinese diplomat, and the former residence of Li Shufu, a descendant of Li Shanren, a famous eight family in Tianjin. Every building contains a story, which records the wind and rain of the times and the changes of history.

Influence of later generations

People don't see the ancient moon, the ancient moon shines on today's people. An era is far away, but these buildings are still well preserved. They are quiet and vivid historical sculptures, from which people today can read the contents that can not be recorded in general historical books. If we savor them carefully, it will be of special interest.
