Historical story

Xumen, also known as laoxumen, is to the south of wannianqiao. In the spring of the Warring States period, Shenjun knew that Taihu Lake was higher than Suzhou. In order to avoid flooding in the city, he closed the xumen waterway. Since then, xumen had no water gate. The inner city of xumen is in BaiHuaZhou, and the urn is trapezoidal. The strange thing is that the outer city gate of xumen is not facing west, but South. Presumably the ancients wanted to avoid the direct impact of the war. It seems safer, but it brings great inconvenience to people. Pedestrians have to go through Xueshi street, enter Wengcheng from the inner city gate, go out of the outer city gate towards the south, and then walk hundreds of steps along Hebei before they can reach Wannian bridge. Now, the Suzhou government has built a 40000 square meter BaiHuaZhou Park in xumen.

Xu gate, also known as "Gu Xu gate", got its name because he Lu came out of this gate to visit gusutai. At first, it was also the gate of water and land. Because the stone with the word "Xu men" was dug under the nearby Gusu post, the Xu men was restored, but only the land gate was built, not the water gate, so as to prevent the flood of Taihu Lake from entering the city. Soon, Zhang Shicheng occupied Suzhou City, strengthened the city wall, and added an urn outside the city gate. During the period of the Republic of China, Suzhou was planned to be built. In order to facilitate transportation, all the urn cities except panmenwai were demolished. From Wu Zixu hanging his head in xumen tower during the Warring States period, "to destroy Wu by watching Yue", to Wang Anshi's exclamation in the Northern Song Dynasty that "thousands of families are fishing in autumn, and a leaf is returning to the boat at dusk rain bay", to the Ming and Qing Dynasties that "merchants gather in all directions", and now the city wall is hidden and reappeared, and has become a leisure place in the Qing Dynasty.
