Zhengding ancient city

Zhengding ancient city is located 15 kilometers north of Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province. It is built according to the traditional planning ideas and architectural style of the Han nationality. It embodies the historical and cultural characteristics of the Han nationality from the 5th century to the 19th century. It is the crystallization of the wisdom and perseverance of the ancient Han working people. In history, it used to be called "Sanxiong town in the north" together with Baoding and Beijing. Up to now, the stone forehead of "sanguanxiong town" is embedded in the south gate. Zhengding is the hometown of Zhao Zilong, a famous general of the Three Kingdoms.

Introduction to the ancient city

The long history has left the ancient city with magnificent and unique cultural sites. It is famous for "three mountains are not seen, nine bridges are not flowing, nine floors, four towers, eight temples and 24 gold medals square".

"Three mountains disappeared" refers to the fact that Zhengding was once the seat of Zhongshan state, Hengshan County and Changshan County in history, but there were no mountains in Zhengding.

"Nine bridges don't flow" refers to a single stone bridge with three roads in front of Longxing Temple, a Pan Bridge in front of Fu Confucian temple and a Pan Bridge in front of Xian Confucian temple.

"Nine towers, four towers and eight temples" refer to the four gatehouses, four turrets and Yanghe tower in the original city; the four pagodas are Lingxiao tower, Huata tower, Xumi tower and chengling tower; the Eight Temples refer to Longxing Temple, Guanghui temple, Linji temple, Kaiyuan Temple, Tianning Temple, Hongji Temple, Sheli temple and Chongyin temple; the latter three temples have been destroyed.

The "24 gold medal archways" used to be Zhengding's 24 gold medal archways, large and small, such as the larger Xu family archway, Liang family archway, Changshan ancient county, Shengde Tongtian, Debei Tiandi, Muduo, etc.

However, due to historical changes, wind and rain, especially after ten years of Cultural Revolution turmoil, many precious cultural relics have been destroyed. But judging from the existing 9 national protected cultural relics, 6 provincial protected cultural relics and more than 10 county-level protected cultural relics, Zhengding is still a famous historical and cultural city. The ancient city was listed as a provincial historical and cultural city in 1990 and a national historical and cultural city in 1994.

Zhengding's tourism has the characteristics of "new and old", "elegant and popular". Among the places of interest, Longxing Temple, built in 586 A.D., was granted and expanded by Zhao Kuangyin, the founding emperor of the Song Dynasty. It is magnificent and well preserved. It enjoys a high reputation at home and abroad. It is praised as "the first famous temple outside Beijing" by Liang Sicheng, a famous ancient architect. The wall sculpture of "inverted Guanyin" in the temple is called "Oriental beauty God" by Lu Xun. "Wheel collection" is regarded by physicists as a model of the operation of Newton's law, as well as the oldest and largest Sutra cabinet in China.

The stele of longzang temple in Sui Dynasty is one of the famous ancient steles in China. Its font is an example of the evolution from Hanli to Tangkai. It was once praised by Kang Youwei as "the first stele in Sui Dynasty"; the 22 meter high Buddha is the earliest and highest bronze standing Buddha in China; the plane cross shaped "mani hall" uses the typical Song Dynasty construction techniques. There are also four famous pagodas around Zhengding. The Huata of Guanghui temple is a clever combination of golden steel pagoda and flower pagoda. The Lingxiao tower of Tianning Temple is the first wooden tower in China. The symmetrical construction of Tang Dynasty bell tower and ancient pagoda in Kaiyuan Temple is the only example of the transition from pagoda centered architecture to temple centered architecture. The chengling Pagoda in Linji temple is the mantle pagoda of Yixuan, the founder of Linji sect of Buddhism. It has become the witness and link of Sino Japanese friendship.

Located in Zhengding City, Rongguo mansion is designed and built according to the description of Cao Xueqin's masterpiece a dream of Red Mansions, and strictly in accordance with the code of the Qing Dynasty. It is the first antique building complex with the architectural style of Ming and Qing Dynasties in China, and also the first location shooting base for ancient buildings of CCTV. Most of the scenes of the big TV series a dream of red mansions were shot here. Ningrong street, a street in Qing Dynasty, is more than 200 meters long. In the TV series a dream of Red Mansions, the dramas such as "Yuan imperial concubine visits relatives" and "Qin Keqing's funeral" are all shot in this street.

Zhengding ancient city wall

The ancient city of Zhengding has a history of more than 1600 years. In the Eastern Jin Dynasty, it was built with earth, and in the Northern Zhou Dynasty, it was built with stone. In the Tang Dynasty, it was expanded into an Earth City, and in the Ming Dynasty, it was changed into a brick city with a circumference of 24 Li. The existing Zhengding city wall is a relic of the Ming Dynasty, with a length of 8106 meters. The most magnificent gate of Zhengding city wall is the four gates, which are called Yingxu in the East, Huancui later, Changle in the south, Zhenyuan in the West and Yongan in the north. After years of erosion, the West and north city gates have lost their former style, and the east gate was completely covered under the national defense fortifications in the 1960s. Before that, the South Gate Tower and the 50 meter wall on both sides of the wall were called upon by Zhengding County Government to donate old city bricks and invested 3.99 million yuan to complete the restoration in 2001.

Zhengding is 15 kilometers south of Shijiazhuang city and 258 kilometers north of Beijing city. Beijing Guangzhou, Beijing Shenzhen, Shide and Shijiazhuang Taiyuan railways pass through the city.
