Huangqiongyu is located in the temple of heaven. It is the place where the tablets of the Emperor God and the ancestors of the last eight generations of the emperor are placed. It was built in the ninth year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty (530). At the beginning, it was a round building with double eaves, named "Temple of Tai", which was the main hall of the round dome altar. It was a temple dedicated to the God in the sacrificial ceremony. In 1538, it was renamed "imperial vault".
