According to the records of the Great Qing assembly code, the Qing court set up 18 ice cellars in four places in the capital, which were under the control of the water department of the Ministry of industry, and were collectively referred to as "official cellars" for the use of ice by the court and the government. Gongjian ice cellar is one of them. The ice cellar is located in the West and faces east. The roof of the ice cellar is a semi underground building with double hook and tile roofs. The wall is about one meter thick and the interior is a brick arch structure.
